the carries frequency f. and the deviation
Example 10.4 A direct-FM transmitter has a varactor modulator with kf = 2 kHz/V and
a maximum deviation of 300 Hz. This modulator is followed by a buffer and three stages
of frequency multiplication: a tripler, a doubler, and another tripler, followed by a driver
and power amplifier.
1) Draw a block diagram of this transmitter.
2) Will this transmitter be capable of 5 kHz deviation at the output?
3) What should the oscillator frequency be if the transmitter is to operate at a
carrier frequency of 150 MHz?
4) What audio voltage will be required at the modulator input to obtain full
deviation?
Use Superposition Theorem.
Consider the dual supply circuit of Figure 10.1 using E1 = 10 volts, E2 = 15 volts, R1 = 4.7 k, R2 = 6.8 k and R3 = 10 k. To find the voltage from node A to ground. Each source is considered by itself. First consider source E1 by assuming that E2 is replaced with its internal resistance (a short). Determine the voltage at node A using standard series-parallel techniques. Make sure to indicate the polarity. Repeat the process using E2 while shorting E1. Finally, sum these two voltages.
8) How much the highest power efficiency (useful power) can we obtain when using DSB-
AM?
