My textbook is still in transit from the bookstore, but I did a little research to find a definition of PR. “Public relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics” (About Public, n.d.) I think their answers were very similar to this definition as they had the same idea without wording it academically. Before starting this course, I had a similar take on PR. I thought PR was used to always ensure the company made the right choices when it came to communicating with other companies or the community. The respondents, the definition I found, and I all shared the same idea of PR. Lastly, I think the responses suggest that the public’s perception of public relations is pretty accurate give or take a few details.   please help reply to this discussion post

Question

I asked a family friend who works with online banking, my best friend that is currently a law student, and my sister who is an HR manager for Lowes. All three had the same general idea of what PR is. To summarize, the three described PR as how a company monitors and handles a company’s relationship with the public and how the public views the company. All three all agreed that PR actioner oversee gathering insight into the public opinion of the company and controlling the company’s narrative. I think since all three people I interviewed work or will work directly with the public they all shared similar ideas of what PR is. Since they work directly with the public, they understand how important it is to stay in good standing with the public.
