With this paper I will attempt to argue the grade I deserve. The only chance of reasonable success in this class is by fulling participating in the course homework. Although this paper may not fully reflect my final course grade, it will be a reasonable overall self-evaluation. The English composition one summer on-line class presented many challenges to me because it was my first experience with an on-line class. By participating in all the discussion boards and peer revision assignments; I was able to learn a lot about my overall writing skills. These assignments allowed me to gain a better perspective of my weakness and strengths as a writer. Also the weekly writing assignments showed me what can be accomplished as a writer when you are
After taking all of these assessments, I learned a great deal about myself. I am now able to pinpoint several strengths I possess that I was unaware of beforehand.
This course has improved my writing and my knowledge about it. Before taking this course, I wasn’t inspired to write at all. I would get assigned a topic and that is what I had to write about. This semester I could choose my topics on what I knew information about or what I am passionate about. I could be really creative with my wording also. When I get to choose my own topic, it is more fun to write.
Everyday we ask ourselves, “Did I make the right decision?” Whether it is in regards to family, friends or co-workers we constantly do self assessments. Self-assessment is defined as a process through which individuals gain knowledge about themselves. Self-Evaluation allows an individual to do an appraisal of self. Individuals are able to access ones strength, weakness and reflect and re-evaluate situation. It is important to evaluate self after each action, course or activities completed. Often times we take things for granted. This leadership course as informed, re-enforce and given me the opportunity to reflect on self and practice.
CENS 303A is my third distance online course at University of British Columbia. It allowed me to learn about the history of the Holocaust, which is an event that I am not particularly familiar. Even though we might not talk about this topic often, it’s still something that we must never forget. Not only did this course educate me about the timeline, historical figures involved but it also helped me understand the realm of darkness in Auschwitz concentration camps.
I felt more comfortable during this speech than I had in my previous two speeches. I’m not sure if it was because of how much I love the topic of aviation, or if it’s because I’m getting more and more exposed to public speaking. Nevertheless, I haven’t yet viewed my speech as I’m writing this, but I felt that I hit my goals of limited uh/ums, more movement, and staying organized in order to hit every point.
I learned a lot in this class during the semester. The first project was our learning narrative, it was not what I was expecting from a writing class. I expected we would be writing a many formal essays in MLA format with lots of sources and research. The first essay being a creative writing project was unexpected. At first writing a narrative from my personal experience was difficult for me. I had not written anything besides formal essays since high school. Writing something that was creative and expressive was an adjustment. After a few days of writing I began to really enjoy my learning narrative. I liked being able to express myself and my own experiences and share them with others.
I chose to assess myself positively in all of the categories because I felt that I did a good job of thoroughly responding to and completing each of the requirements. I came to the discussion with a several page response to each of the four questions that I posed in relation to the text, complete with a highlighted and annotated copy of the story to use as a reference point. During the discussion itself, I referred to how the specific actions of each of the characters in the story might be interpreted and related in a more broad sense to the meaning of the work as a whole. For example, I spoke at one point about how the actions of the wife seemed inconsistent with the continuous importance placed on the value of honor within the story, as her
Now that I have completed the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth course Crafting the Essay, I feel I have tremendously grown as a writer. Even after submitting the first assignment, I looked back at a position paper I wrote for school that I received an A+ on, yet I saw several flaws I wished I had changed.
There was also a good sense of teaching that was done by the presenter to the audience for any person that had any questions that needed to be answered.
My score on the self-assessment evaluation was 84, and according to that I “listen well”, but I know I can work to improve that. One of my lower scores from bad listening habits was “Giving in to mental distractions” and “Judging a speaker on personal appearance”.
Self-assessments can be a personal benefit, as they allow one to better understand how they communicate, how they form relationships, and even how they learn. They are tools that help people comprehend aspects about themselves that they weren’t initially aware of. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, the Johari Window technique, and the Pillow Method are examples of these assessments. In this paper, I will use these three self-assessments to analyze and explain the ways in which I communicate and interact with people.
Over the quarter, I have completed 14 self-assessments that have opened my eyes to who I perceive myself to be and how this can affect my future career path. All 14 of these assessments focused on an aspect of my personality that is embedded and seen in how I view situations and how I conduct my daily life. I took the self-assessments very seriously and asked my family members and current housemates for feedback throughout this process. Some of these assessments confirmed my personal thoughts on the matter and few of the assessments opposed and revealed new qualities about myself that I had not thought of. Overall, this was a revolutionary experience and I would suggest thing process to anyone who wants a clear vision of him/herself.
I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself “what have I learned this semester?” and “what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?”. Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self-evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills.
I have been working towards Standard 2 by making improvements on learning objectives and outcomes by using the Blooms Taxonomy. I have started to incorporate the All, Most and Some into all lesson outcomes so pupils can push and challenge themselves, and I can distinguish which category each pupil falls in. I am still using self-evaluation forms within my Year 7 lessons this allows me and the pupil is able to check where they are up to within their progress of the lesson. I have also been given the opportunity to mark Year 7,8 and 9 exams and Year 10 homework. This has allowed me to give feedback back to the pupils and allow them to progress within lessons.
