Concept explainers
Interpretation: A short paragraph describing fire needs to be written.
Concept introduction: In exothermic reactions reactants changes into products that are very hot. Over time hot products cool down as they transfer heat to the surrounding.
Answer to Problem 2E
Fires are exothermic reactions that transfer energy in the form of light and heat. Flame consists mainly of hot gases.
Explanation of Solution
Matter is changing drastically on fire. An entire forest can be deceased to smoke and ashes as a result of a fire. During this change, tree and brush are converted to water and carbon dioxide gas that expand in atmosphere in gaseous form. Some ash and burned fuel remain after fire. Glowing yellow color of a wood fire is caused by small particles of carbon carried into air by gaseous products of exothermic reaction.
In a fire reactants combine with oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water. Energy that combined with fires has many uses such as cooking food, heating home, and moving cars etc.
