Concept Introduction : Video that is better resolution and quality than the standard definition is referred to as high definition (or HD). High definition (HD) is typically defined as any video image with significantly more than 480 horizontal lines.

HD DVDs can store more information because blue gallium nitride lasers are used in them which have a lower wavelength than red light.

High-definition (HD) videos are superior to standard DVDs in terms of both picture and sound quality.

However, HD technology needs more data than can be fit on a typical DVD.

Data on a typical DVD is read and written using a red laser.

HD DVDs can be read and written using blue gallium nitride (GaN) lasers.

A blue laser can read the information that is more densely packed because blue light has a smaller wavelength than red light, which enables more data to be stored in the same amount of physical space.

In contrast to 4.7 GB on a standard DVD, HD DVDs can hold up to 50 GB of data.
