Explanation of Solution
Mention an application for Market based analysis for local bookstore:
Market based analysis is used to find the pattern of items bought by the customers and predict the future purchase decisions of the customers. It determines how the customers buy goods together and the seller needs to know this pattern as more cross selling opportunity can be created.
For example, if a customer in a general store buys bread, but didn’t buy butter, then he or she is more likely to buy jam as compared to someone who didn’t buy bread.
Local Book store can create an application for market based analysis based on lift. A lift compares products and shows the relative increase or decrease in base probability of one product when other products are purchased.
When two items have a lift of 7:
- As it can be seen that the lift is 7, it indicates that there is an increase of 7 times in the base probability of one product, when the other product is purchased.
- The bookstore should make certain arrangements for these two products to be bought together, may be placing them next to each other or by giving various discount or other lucrative offers.
When two items have a lift of 0...

- A school is conducting a survey of students to learn more about how they get to school. Students were asked how they travel to school, how long it takes them to get to school, what time they arrive at school, and for a description of their most significant challenges when traveling to school. Several rows of the data collected are shown in the table below. Which information could likely NOT be found with the data collected? a-Whether students who are new to the school take longer to get to school than other students b-The average time it takes students to get to school c-The most common travel mode students use to get to school d-Whether students who arrive to school later take longer to get to schoolarrow_forwardSuppose, as manager of a chain of stores, you would like to use sales transactional data to analyze the effectiveness of your store's advertisements: In particular, you would like to study how specific factors influence the effectiveness of advertisements that announce a particular category of items on sale. The factors to study are: the region in which customers live, and the day-of-the-week, and time-of-the-day of the ads. Discuss how to design an efficient method to mine the transaction data sets and explain how multidimensional and multilevel mining methods can help you derive a good solution.arrow_forwardYou are interested in looking at how competition affects gas prices, where you think that if a gas station has more competitors nearby, it will tend to have lower prices. To test this, you decide to use a natural experiment in which a chain of gas stations ("Thrifty") suddenly closed. This closure occurred between June and October of 2012, and meant that gas stations that were previous close to a Thrifty station experienced less competition than before. On the other hand, those stations that were not close to a Thrifty station did not experience any change in competition. You decide to use a differences in differences design, in which gas stations located near a Thrifty station at the start of 2012 are the treatment group and those that were not located near a Thrifty at the start of 2012 are the control group. You look at how prices change before and after the exit of Thrifty. This is plotted in the below graph, where the solid line represents the average price of stations that were…arrow_forward
- Damon Davis was creating the Drano Plumbing Company's spreadsheet. He determined that the net income would be $50,000. When he tallied the columns on the Balance Sheet, the totals were as follows: debit, $400,000; and credit, $300,000. What was the most likely reason for this discrepancy? If this was not the case, how should he proceed to determine the source of the error?arrow_forwardA survey asked people what alternative transportation modes they use. Using the data to completea Venn diagram, then determine: a) what percent of people only ride the bus, and b) how manypeople dont use any alternate transportation.25% walk, 10% ride a bicycle and walk, 30% use the bus, 20% ride a bicycle, 5% use the bus andride a bicycle, 12% use the bus and walk, 2% use all three.arrow_forwardSolve and Illustrate the venn Diagram for each problem statement. 1. In a survey of 260 college students, the following data were obtained: 64 had taken a mathematics course, 94 had taken a computer science course, 58 had taken a business course, 28 had taken a M and B course, 26 had taken a M and CS course, 22 had taken a both CS and B course, 14 had taken a all three course. How many students were surveyed who had taken none of the three course? 2.. A survey of 500 television watchers produced the following information: 285 watched football games, 195 watched hockey games, 115 watch basketball games,,45 watch F & B, 70 watch F & H, 50 watch H & B, 50 do not watch any of the three games How many watched football only?arrow_forward

That is an increase of 14.5 percent from the prior year, which the report attributes, at least in part, to a strong stock market. Some colleges and universities have a particularly high percentage of former students who make financial contributions. In that period, the 10 institutions with the highest percentages of undergraduate alumni donors boasted an average giving rate of 51.5 percent. Alumni donor count is used to calculate alumni participation by dividing it by the number of living alumni on record. For example, if your institution has 100,000 alumni of record (i.e., living with a good address) and 20,000 of them made a gift last year, your alumni participation rate is 20%. The importance of alumni participation cannot be understated; for example, U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges, the most prominent…arrow_forwardchoose items with maximum total benefit but with weight at most W .. whats the maximum total benefit?arrow_forward
