Concept explainers
The explanation for the increase in flooding due to the urban development.
Answer to Problem 21R
The threat of the flooding increases by the pavement of the land due to activities for the urban development.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The development for the human activities in a specific region is called urban development. The construction of the highways, roads, offices, housing societies, stores and parks are the activities of the urban development.
The earth is seventy percent covered by the rivers and oceans. The remaining part is covered by the mountains and plain land. The area off the plain land is very limited. With the growing population the need of the urban development increased. The pavement of the land prevents the water to soak into the soil, so all the waters run off into sewers and rivers. The discharge of the water increases in the sewers and rivers increases the threats of the flooding.
Conclusion:
Thus, the threat of the flooding increases by the pavement of the land due to activities for the urban development.
