Concept explainers
The three pollutants in the air due to the burning of the fossil fuels.
Answer to Problem 23R
Carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide , carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen are the pollutants in the air due to the burning of the fossil fuels.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The fuels that formed due to decomposition of the biomass by the natural processes are called fossil fuels. These are formed due to high temperature and pressure inside the earth. The examples of the fossil fuels are coal, petroleum and natural gas.
The waste products are produced due to burning of the fossil fuel. These waste products pollute the environment. The pollutants due to burning of the fossil fuels are carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen.
The increases in the concentration of the carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide reduce the oxygen in the environment. The oxides of the nitrogen cause the acid rain.
Conclusion:
Thus, the Carbon dioxide, Sulphur dioxide, Carbon monoxide and oxides of the nitrogen are the pollutants in the air due to the burning of the fossil fuels.
