We will explain to him that, the correlation would only show if there was a strong linear association between the two variables, but if the researcher had seen a strong parabolic relationship instead between the two variables, he would have seen that the correlation would be close to zero. Therefore, the correlation would not be able to accurately describe an association with a parabolic relationship.
