To Explain: The given situation is an example of experiment or observational study.
The situation is an example of an experiment.
Given information: A website is redesigned and to test it, two groups are formed and people were chosen randomly in the group. One group used new website and other group used old website. People who used new website were able to make the purchase
Calculation:
As, the group is divided and people chosen is random therefore, it is unbiased and the people are studied under same condition with an exception of one variable which is being tested. Therefore, this given situation is an example of controlled experiment. Hence, it is an experiment not an observational study.
