To explain what randomized, double-blind and placebo controlled means in the study.
Explanation of Solution
Randomized means that the subjects were randomly assigned to the two treatment groups: vaccine and placebo.
Double-blind means that neither the subjects nor the people delivering the vaccines knew which treatment was being delivered.
Placebo-controlled means that an inactive substance, which is intended to not do anything, is given to one group of subjects while the actual treatment is given to the other group of subjects to serve as a basis of comparison.
