JSA data is analyzed through a sequential breakdown of relevant steps and safety hazards in each step determined. Consequently, the identified hazards are then categorized into different risk levels, and preventive measures are determined. How does this help with prioritizing risks and could there be a pitfall if prioritizing does not occur?
Rubatex Corporation manufactures rubber and foam for a variety of products, including artificial turf housing and insulation, hockey helmet liners, scuba diving suits, sports sandals and mouse pads. The company was purchased by an investment firm called American industrial partners (AIP) that has so far earned only a 1 percent return on its investment. Obviously the company is having problems. Its sales are up but earnings are down. In the first three months after acquisition, the company lost $2 million on $68 million in sales. Understandably, AIP wants to know why and is demanding aggressive action.
Employees at the Bedford, Virginia, plant say they know something’s wrong. The plant is hot and dirty and crumbling, and they are working harder to produce items of poorer quality. Equipment is…

Use information provided in table 7.8 , 7.7 (*) Use the weighted-point evaluation system to cal- culate weighted performance scores for each of the software firms. Would the results change if each dimension had a weight of one-third? (**) In Chapter 2, we described order qualifiers as per- formance dimensions on which customers demand a minimum level of performance. Basically, if a supplier fails to meet the minimum requirements on any of the qualifiers, that supplier would be eliminated from contention. That’s largely due to the lack of proper driver education in the country. But some cities in the National Capital Region are more accident-prone than the others. - CASE STUDY: STUDENT ADVISING DSS From (Jessup and Valacich, 2003) Good student advising for course selection is one way to help retain students. Student advising is a time consuming activity for faculty involved in the process and is particularly important for newly starting students. Also it is particularly difficult to schedule advising sessions for part-time students. A university developed and implemented a Web based system to help students select modules. The system is linked to the university-wide database of student records so that it can consider a list of all completed courses as well as student interests when making recommendations. The DSS (Decision Support System) adviser makes course suggestions while considering degree requirements, prerequisites, availability, and student interests. The system knows when courses will be offered and can analyse the transcript of transfer students…arrow_forwardCreate a one-paragraph reflection on the importance of feasibility reports. The wind tunnel is used to find the best compromise between ergonomics and aerodynamics for the cyclist. Presently, more and more cyclists are interested in CBF’s services, so the company considers building a second facility. However, given the enormous costs of the wind tunnel, they also want to explore a more effective use of the current facility. An initial data collection reveals that: The standard fitting time for a cyclist is 2h. On average, the wind tunnel is used for 7 fitting procedures a day (new customers or customers who want a refit). The wind tunnel is available 24 hours a day. CBF offers a free second session should the customer not be entirely satisfied with their bike fit (internally also known as “rework sessions”). About 2 out of 5 customers come back for such a “refit,” which…arrow_forward
