Chapter 32.2, Problem 1TC
Summary Introduction

To determine:

The symptoms of using 2,4 DNP and also determine why it will lead to death.

Introduction:

There are two types of fats: brown fat and white fat. Brown fat is present in babies which allows them and some other mammals to produce heat without shivering. As the baby becomes an adult the amount of brown fat decreases and the white fat increases. Brown fat contains mitochondria and lipids. The mitochondria have a membrane covering known as UCP 1 which utilizes this energy in the form of heat instead of storing it in the form of ATP.

Bodybuilders that take anabolic steroids such as androstenedione and testosterone often suffer from gynecomasty (enlarged breasts) as a side effect. Knowing that in women breast growth is stimulated by estrogens, explain why this happens to bodybuilders using the law of mass action. Again, make sure to mention the substrate and product of the reaction. View keyboard shortcuts

Being chased by a bear will activate glycogen synthesis and inhibit glycogen phosphorylase     C. Exercise or “fight-or-flight” circumstances will result in an increase in epinephrine causing increased glycogen phosphorylase and decreased glycogen synthase activities     D.
