The change that happensto the air pressure and temperature of an air parcel as it flows up the side of a mountain.
Answer to Problem 10RQ
When an air parcel as it flows up the side of a mountain then its pressure and temperature both decreases.
Explanation of Solution
When a parcel of air flows up the side of a mountain then its pressure decreasesdue to which the air expands. During expansion, its temperature decreases. If the air passes over the peak, it gets recompressed and warmed up as it goes down the downwind side of the mountain. This phenomenon causes the downward side to be drier. At the side of the mountain, the air cools which ultimately lowers the amount of moisture as a result the relative humidity increases.
Conclusion:
Therefore, when an air parcel as it flows up the side of a mountain then its pressure and temperature both decrease.
