Find x.
Answer to Problem 14MCQ
x = 60
Explanation of Solution
Given :
A is going to set up two parallel train tracks with a third track running diagonally across the first two.To properly place a switch , she needs the angle between the diagonal and the top of the second track to be twice as large as the angle between the diagonal and bottom of the first track.
Formula Used:
Consecutive Interior
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal , then each pair of consecutive interior angles is supplementary.
Calculation :
Represent the given situation in the diagram :
The parallel tracks are lines l and m and the diagonal is d .
One angle is x and the other is 2x .
Since the angles lie on the interior and same side of the diagonal(transversal) , they are consecutive interior angles. And the two tracks , the lines l and m are parallel.
By Consecutive Interior Angles Theorem,the angles are supplementary.
