Movement in muscles takes place by the sliding of the filaments of muscles of which they are made. The muscles of skeleton have proteins that are in form of bands or filaments. They are called the actin and the myosin filaments. The walls of skeletal muscles hence, appear to be striped or striated as these muscles contain alternating arrangements of these filaments.
