Chapter 29, Problem 6WIO
Summary Introduction
To analyze:
The way botulinum toxin causes a potentially fatal disease and how doctors use this toxin to reduce the signs of aging.
Introduction:
A neurotoxin, botulinum toxin impairs normal neurotransmission by interfering with its activity. The neuromuscular junction's SNARE protein is disrupted by botulinum toxin, which prevents the production of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. A muscular contraction is prevented as a result of the impulse not being transferred further.
