Introduction:
Ketogenesis is the production of ketone bodies in the liver. These ketone bodies are used for the production of acetyl CoA, and then it is used as the substrate for the citric acid cycle. Excessive production of ketone bodies limits the acetyl CoA entering into the citric acid cycle. Thus in a low-carbohydrate diet, there is an excessive production of ketone bodies.
