Summary Introduction

The ability of the pathogen to cause an infectious disease is measured in terms of pathogenicity and virulence. The cumulative effect of interaction of the pathogen with host which helps to measure the pathogenicity is termed as virulence. Virulence would be different for different microorganisms and will vary from one strain to another strain. Virulence can be quantified in terms of LD50 by the presence of lethal pathogen and a suitable animal model.
