The inflammatory response is a major component of innate immunity. It occurs when the tissues are damaged whether by insect bites, microorganisms, and other physical injuries trigger this response. The main effect of this is to disinfect and clean injured tissues. The main effector cells in the inflammatory response are the neutrophils and macrophages. The four symptoms of the inflammatory response are the redness, heat, swelling, and pain.
