To determine: The major theme that is evident among the relationship of structure to function, information flow, pathways that transform energy and matter, interactions within biological system, or evolution and how it is related to the statement “Your body contains a record of previously encountered pathogen because clonal selection creates memory cells against specific invaders”.
Introduction: Immune system consists of a series of immune defense reactions that are carried out in response to antigens that invade the body. But before encountering antigens, immune system produces a series of immune cells that are specific for the invaded antigen. From many wandering naïve immune cells, one of the cells that have suitable receptors for the antigen specifically get selected and is expanded to form a huge number. This theory where the immune system reacts to an invaded antigen is called as the clonal selection. Clonal selection of immune cells leads to clonal expansion where effector cells produced destroy the antigen and the memory cells produced to specific antigens are produced for the immediate response on second time exposure.
