Concept explainers
Interpretation:Separation of sugar water solution into sugar (solid) and water is needs to be explained.
Concept Introduction:Distillation is a physical separation process. The boiling point’s difference in the liquid-mixed elements by overcoming one of them into a gaseous state is shown by this process.
Answer to Problem 7RQ
Solution of sugar water is separated into sugar and water through distillation.
Explanation of Solution
Solid sugar and water from sugar water solution can be separate by distillation process. In distillation process, at first the sugar water solution is boiled. Water evaporatedthrough the condenser and sugar crystals are leaving behind the flask.
Filtration is the process in which soluble materials merely move through the filter paper. In sugar water solution, sugar is completely dissolved in water. So, this process is not used to separate the solid sugar from sugar water solution.
Through filtration, insoluble solid particles are separated from the solution.
