Answer to Problem 2RQ

A physical property describes the physical changes of a substance. Physical change is a temporary change; it is a reversible change. For example, melting mercury, boiling water.

Explanation of Solution

Physical properties are the physical appearance of any substance. Physical properties are constant for each substance. These properties are classified as extensive properties or intensive properties.

In the physical changes, no new substance is formed and the ratio of composition remains unchanged. Means that the physical change is a temporarily and reversible change.

For example:

  • Mercury melts at World of Chemistry, 3rd edition, Chapter 2.2, Problem 2RQ is the example of the physical property.
  • Boiling water is the example of physical property.
