Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The difference between the colour of oxyhemoglobin anddeoxyhemoglobin, on the basis of high spin and low spin complexes, is to be discussed.
Concept introduction:
Oxyhemoglobin is a form where the hemoglobin is oxygenloaded and it has a bright red color.
Deoxyhemoglobin is a form of hemoglobin where oxygen is removed in hemoglobin and it has a purple color.
A ligand that generally forms high spin complexes with metals is a weak ligand. Its binding always causes less difference between the lower and the higher energy level orbitals. It always forms tetrahedral geometry.
A ligand that generally forms low spin complexes is known as a strong ligand. Its binding always causes a high difference between the lower and the higher energy level orbitals. It always forms octahedral geometry.
