Chapter 22, Problem 12TY
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Categorizing organisms on the basis of their characteristics is called taxonomy. Many systems of classification were proposed and used until the currently used system was proposed. In 1969, R. H. Whitaker proposed five kingdom classification system, which was further modified to reflect phylogenetic, systematic, and cladistic similarities. Domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species is now the worldwide accepted system for taxonomy.
