Different processes are involved in the viral reassortment that involves mixing of the genetic materials. This process primarily occurs when the two different viruses infect the same cell. Thereby, they exchange their genetic material, and new forms of viruses (flu strains) are formed. An example is viral reassortment in influenza viruses.
