Concept explainers
To review:
The evolutionary processes which are likely to explain the observed evolutionary changes. The important and unimportant processes in the evolutionary change.
Introduction:
Anole is the largest and diverse group of lizards found in America. It is the most common organism for the ecological and evolutionary studies. The two species A. carolinensis (Anole) and the A. sagrei compete with each other and are aggressive. The species of anoles have a strong association of height and structure of toe pads, which the lizards use to climb. The researchers found that the habitat of the lizards affected the evolution in the lizards.
When the A. sagrei was introduced on the islands the changes were observed. On the islands, which did not support the A. sagrei and only had A. carolinensis, no changes were observed. The researchers then collected the samples of each type and also raised an offspring of lizard in the controlled environment and they researched about the differences in the genetic basis.

- Background: In class we did a project about m and m’s and there ability to evolve and natural selection. (Yes I know they can’t actually evolve it was just used as a example in class) however I can’t figure out this question. Occasionally a mutant may occur and produce a candy that is misshapen or Pointier or flatter than the rest. Often this proves to be a weakness, but a rare mutation may confer extra M&M durability. Other mutations in M&Ms could occur ( like ones that result in a new color). A mutant un you population represents a new _________. In the course of this explanation, use two sketches to completely describe how the cellular process ran before and after it was reversed by Le Chatelier’s principle, including 1. all inputs/where they come from 2. all outputs/where they go 3. what good the process does the cell.arrow_forwardWhat is meant by biological evolution?arrow_forward
- Is gene transfer a form of eugenics? Is it advantageous to use gene transfer to eliminate some genetic disorders? Can this and other technology be used to influence the evolution of our species? Should there be guidelines for the use of genetic technology to control its application to human evolution? Who should create and enforce these guidelines?arrow_forwardWhich evolutionary factors are random processes? Which among are not? Why?arrow_forwardWhat is environmental evolution? How do all living things share a common ancestor? What is random evolution?arrow_forward
- Which type of evidence for evolution is most accurate in determining evolutionary relationships–morphology or molecular and why?arrow_forwardWhy is intelligent design (ID) a flawed argument? Select the statement that is FALSE. There is no way through experiments or observations to falsify the hypothesis of an Intelligent Designer. ID assumes that each molecular machinery is built from scratch, which is not true; existing proteins are often re-used. OID and evolution are both valid hypotheses, but over the years we have found more evidence pointing toward evolution. O ID assumes that systems are irreducibly complex, and that individual components cannot be removed, even though several examples exist of 'irreducibly complex' systems being reduced. en 0 3 $ 35 % ^ 6 18 & * 8 9 44 Indoor Playground with wheelsarrow_forwardWhat are the shreds of evidence that the theory of evolution happened to all living forms?arrow_forward
- Evolutionary biologists often say that evolution “selects for outcomes” not for the particular genetic changes that lead to that adaptive outcome. Given that perspective, is it surprising that different gene mutations might be involved in the evolution of the same trait (such as light skin or adaptation to living in high mountains)?
