Concept explainers
To determine: The ATP that can be produced by the complete oxidation of each propionyl-CoA product of fatty acid oxidation.
Concept introduction: β-oxidation is a catabolic process in which the fatty acid molecules are broken down to generate acetyl-CoA that enters the citric acid cycle. Fatty acid molecules are broken down in the mitochondria in eukaryotes and in the cytosol in prokaryotes
To compare: The ATP yield for the catabolism of propionyl-CoA with the ATP yield for each acetyl-CoA.
