Concept introduction:
Predetermined overhead allocation:
Manufacturing overhead cost is the pool of all indirect costs incurred for the production. These are the costs which are not directly traceable to the product. Manufacturing costs include indirect material indirect labor and overheads. These costs are allocated to the products using the predetermined overhead allocation rate. The formula of predetermined overhead allocation rate is as follows:
Requirement-2:
To calculate:
The Applied overhead cost

- When setting its predetermined overhead application rate. Tasty Turtle estimated its overhead would be $75,000 and manufacturing would require 25,000 machine hours in the next year. At the end of the year, it found that actual overhead was $74,000 and manufacturing required 24,000 machine hours. Determine the predetermined overhead rate. What is the overhead applied during the year? Prepare the journal entry to eliminate the under- or over applied overhead.arrow_forwardPREDETERMINED FACTORY OVERHEAD RATE Marston Enterprises calculates a predetermined factory overhead rate so that factory overhead may be applied to production during the month. It calculates the overhead using three different methods and then decides which one to use. Total estimated factory overhead costs are 600,000. Total estimated direct labor hours are 30,000. Total estimated direct labor costs are 1,200,000. Total machine hours are estimated to be 200,000. Calculate the predetermined overhead application rates based on (1) direct labor hours, (2) direct labor costs, and (3) machine hours.arrow_forwardWhen setting its predetermined overhead application race, Tasty Box Meals estimated its overhead would be $100,000 and would require 25,000 machine hours in the next year. At the end of the year. It found that actual overhead was $102,000 and required 26,000 machine hours. Determine the predetermined overhead rate. What is the overhead applied during the year? Prepare the journal entry to eliminate the under applied or over applied overhead.arrow_forward
- Please use the information from this problem for these calculations. After grouping cost pools and estimating overhead and activities, Box Springs determined these rates: It estimates there will be five orders in the next year, and those jobs will involve: What is the total cost of the jobs?arrow_forwardPlease use the information from this problem for these calculations. After grouping cost pools and estimating overhead and activities, Box Springs determined these rates: Box Springs estimates there will be four orders in the next year, and those jobs will involve: What is the total cost of the jobs?arrow_forwardRulers Company is a neon sign company that estimated overhead will be $60,000, consisting of 1,500 machine hours. The cost to make Job 416 is $95 in neon, 15 hours of labor at $13 per hour, and five machine hours. During the month, it incurs $95 in indirect material cost, $130 in administrative labor, $320 in utilities, and $350 in depreciation expense. What is the predetermined overhead rate if machine hours are considered the cost driver? What is the cost of Job 416? What is the overhead incurred during the month?arrow_forward
- PREDETERMINED FACTORY OVERHEAD RATE Millerlile Enterprises calculates a predetermined factory overhead rate so that factory overhead may be applied to production during the month. It calculates the overhead using three different methods and then decides which one to use. Total estimated factory overhead costs are 540,000. Total estimated direct labor hours are 50,000. Total estimated direct labor costs are 900,000. Total machine hours are estimated to be 80,000. Calculate the predetermined overhead application rates based on (1) direct labor hours, (2) direct labor costs, and (3) machine hours.arrow_forwardCompute the total job cost for each of the following scenarios: a. If the direct labor cost method is used in applying factory overhead and the predetermined rate is 100%, what amount should be charged to Job 2010 for factory overhead? Assume that direct materials used totaled 5,000 and that the direct labor cost totaled 3,200. b. If the direct labor hour method is used in applying factory overhead and the predetermined rate is 10 an hour, what amount should be charged to Job 2010 for factory overhead? Assume that the direct materials used totaled 5,000, the direct labor cost totaled 3,200, and the number of direct labor hours totaled 250. c. If the machine hour method is used in applying factory overhead and the predetermined rate is 12.50 an hour, what amount should be charged to Job 2010 for factory overhead? Assume that the direct materials used totaled 5,000, the direct labor cost totaled 3,200, the direct labor hours were 250 hours, and the machine hours were 295 hours.arrow_forwardUse the following information for Exercises 9-63 and 9-64: Palladium Inc. produces a variety of household cleaning products. Palladiums controller has developed standard costs for the following four overhead items: Next year, Palladium expects production to require 90,000 direct labor hours. Exercise 9-64 Performance Report Based on Actual Production Refer to the information for Palladium Inc. above. Assume that actual production required 93,000 direct labor hours at standard. The actual overhead costs incurred were as follows: Required: Prepare a performance report for the period based on actual production.arrow_forward
- SmokeCity, Inc., manufactures barbeque smokers. Based on past experience, SmokeCity has found that its total annual overhead costs can be represented by the following formula: Overhead cost = 543,000 + 1.34X, where X equals number of smokers. Last year, SmokeCity produced 20,000 smokers. Actual overhead costs for the year were as expected. Required: 1. What is the driver for the overhead activity? 2. What is the total overhead cost incurred by SmokeCity last year? 3. What is the total fixed overhead cost incurred by SmokeCity last year? 4. What is the total variable overhead cost incurred by SmokeCity last year? 5. What is the overhead cost per unit produced? 6. What is the fixed overhead cost per unit? 7. What is the variable overhead cost per unit? 8. Recalculate Requirements 5, 6, and 7 for the following levels of production: (a) 19,500 units and (b) 21,600 units. (Round your answers to the nearest cent.) Explain this outcome.arrow_forwardGreen Bay Cheese Company estimates its overhead to be $375,000. It expects to have 125,000 direct labor hours costing $1,500,000 in labor and utilizing 15,000 machine hours. Calculate the predetermined overhead rate using: A. Direct labor hours B. Direct labor dollars C. Machine hoursarrow_forwardOverhead application rate Roll Tide Manufacturing Inc. uses a job order cost system and standard costs. It manufactures one product, whose standard cost follows: The standards are based on normal capacity of 2,700 direct labor hours. Actual activity for March follows: Required: 1. Compute the variable and fixed factory overhead rates per unit. 2. Compute the variable and fixed overhead rates per direct labor hour. 3. Determine the total fixed factory overhead based on normal capacity.arrow_forward
