Chapter 19.5, Problem 1R
Summary Introduction
To review:
The evolution of diverse body forms in arthropods by mutations in the developmental genes.
Introduction:
Arthropods are animals with jointed appendages and constitute over 90% of the total animals in the animal kingdom. It includes an incredibly diverse group of taxa such as spiders, insects, scorpions, crustaceans, and centipedes. The organisms from different taxa have the common characteristic feature of arthropods but their body forms are relatively different from each other.

examine the morphology of a millipede and a butterfly.
What characters do they share? Notice how their bodies are divided into several specialized regions called tagmata. How did tagmatization contribute to the diversity of arthropods?
How can the features of the arthropod exoskeleton explain the terrestrial adaptation of some species of the phylum?
