The flashlight fish has an organ under its eye that emits light, which serves to startle predators and attract prey, and allows the fish to communicate with other fish. Somc species can rotate the organ inside and then out, so the light appears to flash on and off The light is actually emitted by bacteria (of the genus Vibrio) that live in the organ in a mutualistlc relationship with the fish. (The bacteria receive nutrients froin the fish.) The bacteria must multiply until they reach a certain density in the organ (a "quorum"; see Concept 11.1), at which point they all begln emittlng light at the same time. There is a group of six or so genes, called lux genes, whose gene produets are necessary for light formation. Given that these bacterial genes are regulated together, propose a hypothesis for how the genes are organized and regulated.

Please answer fast You genetically engineered a cell to no longer contain the extracellular domain of an integrin. What is the most likely effect of losing this domain on the cell's ability to bind?   It would affect the cell's ability to attach to the ECM.   It would affect both the cell's ability to attach to other cells and the cell's ability to attach to the cytoskeleton.   It would affect the cell's ability to attach to the cytoskeleton through adaptor proteins.   It would have no effect on the cell's ability to attach to anything

Part A How can an understanding of enzymes and biological receptors guide medicinal chemists? Match the words in the left column to the appropriate blanks in the sentences on the right. Submit an increase will not less more a decrease will Request Answer Reset Help 1. A better understanding of biological processes such as the behavior of enzymes and biological receptors be beneficial for medicinal chemists. Chemists can design drug molecules effectively to resemble biological molecules and their actions. The new medicines and materials can be developed quickly and safely, leading to in both energy usage and cost.
