Why is the killing of cells by radioactivity better than damage of cells?
The reason behind the killing of cells by radioactivity is better than damaging of cells.
Answer to Problem 8RQ
The killing of cells by radioactivity better than damaging of cells because damaged cell DNA can alter the generic information.
Explanation of Solution
The interaction of the radiation to our body can cause disorder in the structure of the cell. If the radiation is not too severe, then cells of our body can repair various kinds of damage done by radiation. Cells have the ability to heal itself and can generate new cells.
When radiation is enough to kill cells, then the dead cells get replaced by new cells. But sometimes the affected cell survives with a damaged DNA. And this results in alteration of the genetic information that leads to mutations. If the mutation occurs in reproductive cells, then it can be presented in every cell of the offspring's body and can affect the functioning of the body. So the killing of cells by radioactivity is better than damaging of cells.
Conclusion:
Therefore, the killing of cells by radioactivity is better than damage of cells.
