The nervous system can be defined as a highly complex portion of an animal which directs its actions and sensory messages by transmitting signals to and from diverse body parts. The basic unit of the nervous system is known as the nerve cell or neuron.
Explanation of Solution
The autonomic nervous system:
It is also known as ANS. It is previously known as the vegetative nervous system. It is a division of the peripheral nervous system. It supplies to the smooth muscle and glands. Thus, it affects the functioning of internal organs.
The general function of the ANS:
Most of the functions of ANS are involuntary but they can usually work in combination with the somatic nervous system and provides voluntary control. The ANS voluntary effects are digestion, heart rate, respiratory rate, perspiration, micturition, salivation, pupillary dilation, and sexual arousal.
The effectors of the autonomic nervous system:
It includes the smooth muscles of the cardiac muscle, blood vessels, and a variety of glands all through the body. Effectors of the ANS include the smooth muscles of blood vessels, cardiac muscle, and different glands throughout the body.
Most of the functions of ANS are involuntary but they can usually work in combination with the somatic nervous system and provides voluntary control.
