Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Elongation is one of the major stages in the synthesis of proteins. Elongation involves the joining of amino acids to produce a polypeptide chain. It requires 70S initiation complex, tRNAs charged with their appropriate amino acids, and multiple elongation factors. A ribosome consist of three major sites that can be taken up by tRNAs: the aminoacyl (A) site, the peptidyl (P) site, and the exit (E) site.

Elongation mainly takes place in three steps which includes the entering of charged tRNA to the A site, the formation of peptide bond between amino acids in the A and P sites and at last the translocation of ribosome to the next codon.
