The autonomic ganglia are the sites where the preganglionic neurons and postganglionic neurons synapse. The autonomic ganglia can be divided into two main groups-: the sympathetic ganglia and the parasympathetic ganglia.

The sympathetic preganglionic neurons and postganglionic neurons synapse at sympathetic ganglia, while the parasympathetic preganglionic neurons and the postganglionic neurons synapse at the parasympathetic ganglia.
