BHT stands for butylated hydroxytoluene which is used as a preservative in packed food in small quantities. BHT has antioxidant properties. It can prevent the compounds from the damaging effects of oxygen exposure. For example, processed food like potatoes flakes is packed in the airtight container having the presence of BHT.
