Summary Introduction

In translation, the nucleotide sequence is “read” in a distinct set of three nucleotides, each set being a codon. Each amino acid is encoded by a single codon.  The sequence of a codon is read in ‘one way’ (reading frame) which may give rise to the amino acid sequence of a polypeptide chain. Decipherment of the genetic code is considered as one of the greatest achievements of science.
