An experiment needs to be designed to show the action of lactose permease that can be reversed in vitro to pump protons.
ConceptIntroduction:
Lactose permease is an enzyme present at cell membrane that works as trans-membrane protein. With the influence of such membrane protein enzymes, lactose molecule can be transported through phospholipid cell membrane for cell functioning. Proton along with lactose moves in the same direction and uses energy source for an enzyme-catalyzed reaction.
