The percentage error in a measurement of volume is 1.26 % .
Explanation of Solution
Given information:
Temperature T1=20∘C .
Temperature T2 =80∘C .
Quantity of water, V0= 300 mL .
Expansion coefficient, β=210×10-6 °C-1 .
Formula used:
% error = ΔV V0×100
Here, V0 is the quantity of water.
ΔV is the change in the volume.
Calculation:
Fuel a cup with water at 20oC , is 300 ml of cool water. Now the cup is heated to 80∘C and due to that heating, cup and water both are heated due to thermal expansion. Some of the water will overflow from the cup due to the heating. Volume of water that will overflow from the cup is called ΔV
ΔV = V0×β×ΔTΔV = 300×10-3×210×10-6×(80 - 20)ΔV = 0.00378 L
This is the error in the volume which is determined by using hot water.
% error = 0.00378 0.3×100 = 1.26 %
Conclusion:
Thus, the percentage error in a measurement of volume is 1.26 % .
