Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

The change in the volume of matter due to change in the temperature is known as thermal expansion.

Mostly, the substances expand due to increase in the temperature. But, water on the contrary behaves differently. The volume of water decreases if it is heated at 00C until it reaches the temperature 40C . Above 40C it behaves similar to the other substances. So, it can be concluded that the density is greatest at 40C .

Now, soda is mostly water. So, expansion will be higher below 40C The weaker parts of the can are top and the bottom. So, the freezing soda will push the surfaces of the can outwards. Hence, freezing a can soda causes its top and bottom to bulge badly.

Conclusion:

On the basis of above discussion, it can be concluded that the top and bottom of the canned soda are the weakest part. As the temperature goes lower than the expansion becomes more between the molecules of the soda and try to escape the surface of the walls of the soda.
