Using the internet or reference books, compare the amount of sulfur dioxide produced by Mount Kilauea in Hawaii with that from all U.S. industry. (Remember to use the same time span for both.)
Concept Introduction: Sulfur dioxide pollution causes major havoc. Sulfur dioxide combines with water to form sulfuric acid, which is the main component of acid rain. Acid rain acidifies water and is detrimental to aquatic life and cause deforestation. Sulfur dioxide affects the respiratory system,
causing coughing, mucus secretion and aggravates conditions such as asthma and chronic bronchitis.
