Chapter 13, Problem 1CHQ
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: a) To explain the working of the sunscreen. To elucidate the difference between SPF4 and 50 and if any one sunscreen is better at protecting from sun damage than the other

b) To discuss the observation after the sun screen coated beads are brought indoors.

Concept Introduction: Dermatologists can confirm that SPF does effectively block the sun rays from damaging the skin. So applying sunscreen is certainly worth the effort. Research has proven that it is good to follow the user guide in terms of sunscreen use. Even if you are using SPF 50 you will only get 40% of the protection. The high sun protection that a sunscreen can offer depends on the density of the usage of the sunscreen on the skin. Dermatologist recommended using a good amount of sunscreen on the skin to gain effective protection. Also it is recommended to reapply sunscreen every two hours, which is the recommended strategy. In summer as you are sweating the sunscreen gets diluted and that reduces the effect of the sunscreen.
