Circumcenter: The circumcenter of a triangle is the point in the plane which is equidistant from the three vertices of thetriangle.

To find the location of 4th tower that is equidistant from the given three towers means that we have to find the circumcenter of the triangle formed by the 3 vertices.

The circumcenter will be the intersection of all perpendicular bisectorsof sides of the triangle.

To find perpendicular vectors:

Midpoint of the points A(3,4)and C(9,4) = (x1+x22,y1+y22)

=(3+92,4+42)

=(3,4)

Midpoint of the points A(3,4)and B(3,12)

=(3+32,4122)

=(3,4)

The standard form of the equation of circle with center at (h,k) and radius r is

(xh)2+(yk)2=r2

  • Distance between the points (x1,y1)and (x2,y2)is (x2x1)2+(y2y1)2

To find the equation of circle with center at (3,4) ,and which lies all three vertices A(3,4),B(9,4) and C(3,12) ,we need to find the radius.

To find the radius:

Since the vertices A, B and C lies on the circle, distance between the center (3,4) and any one of the point A,B, and C will be radius of the circle.

Radius, r = distance between the points (3,4) and (3,4)

= ((3)3)2+(4(4))2

= (6)2+(8)2

  =36+64

  =100

  =10

Equation of circle with center (3,4) and radius 10 is
