Choose the electrolyte that you think is the most critical to maintain, i.e., the most significant electrolyte that is regulated by the kidneys to maintain normal body function.  Indicate where in the nephron (PCT, Loop, DCT) this electrolyte is regulated (appropriate amounts returned to the blood).

Question
  2. Determine if an under-regulated (a hyper- condition) or an over-regulated (a hypo- condition) is the most critical of the electrolyte you've chosen that would life threatening.  List the correct name of the condition associated with the electrolyte.
  3. Explain why you feel this electrolyte condition is the most critical.  Your explanation should include the organ system most affected by either the under- or over-regulated electrolyte.  You may also want to include conditions or other organ system dysfunctions that could result from your chosen electrolyte condition that contributes to the life-threatening situation.  A little research and review of all systems covered in Anatomy & Physiology may help you explain your choice.
  4. Your initial post must be at least 1 paragraph containing no less than 3-4 separate sentences.  You are not limited to only 1 paragraph but please limit your initial post to no more than 3 paragraphs.  Grammar and spelling are important.  Points will be deducted for errors in spelling and/or grammar.
  5. You must also reply to 1 other post with a substantial response in order to receive extra credit points.  The substantial response should stimulate further thought and/or discussion.  Do not simply agree/disagree or like/dislike.  Add some insight or "food" for thought" that would further the discussion.  Spelling and grammar are important in your response to someone's post.  At least 1 paragraph is required for your response
