After clicking on the power point, I found myself obsessed with completing the APA game. Students came in during lunch and were amused to hear my boisterous cheers and frustrations while playing the game. Andrew, an ELD student, came in to speak to me about Journalism and interjected the type of computer programming that was used to design the game. He immediately looked at the game setup and gave me his input; he felt it was necessary give me a strategy on how to win based on the configuration of the program. I told him I want to learn APA and was willing to get items wrong because I need to learn APA formatting. I surprised myself and got more correct than I thought. I asked Andrew to help me set up a game like this for ELD and our learning
Have you ever had something happen to you that made you think you couldn't do what you loved anymore? Well I have. I thought I would never be able to play the sport I loved, basketball, anymore. When I broke my arm in fourth grade in 2012 taught me to persevere, that you can do what you love no matter what, and no matter what bumps you hit in your life you can always come back better.
Unfortunately, a tense schooling environment and tightened curriculum expectations have led to Michael’s idea being turned away from regular classroom implementation. Michael has, however, received an invitation for his team’s game to be introduced and used in higher end pre-ap courses. On the advice of multiple teachers and administrators, Michael has decided to re-work the product and test it through pre-ap courses before trying to reapply it for regular classrooms.
In 8th grade, instead of baking cookies or cake in cooking class or drawing pictures in art, I took German 1 to put myself in the position to be placed in AP German my senior year. My freshman and sophomore years of high school I took Photography to work towards taking AP 2D Studio Art along with other AP/accelerated sciences, maths, and english classes. Certainly, there are other students that took just as difficult of courses that I did, but I pushed myself to excel in other courses that others may not have taken.
I face little challenges every single day, but that's a part of life; that's just how things are. The most important things in my life are my grades, family, and friends, so naturally, my struggle involved one of these things. This year was particularly hard for me in school, I was a sophomore taking four AP classes. I thought it wouldn't be as bad as everyone said it was going to be - it turned out to be all right, except I had little free time. Because of this, I struggled in AP Language. I didn't give the subject enough attention and did not try hard enough. Three weeks before the end of the semester, I had an A-. On the very last day of the semester, my grade was a 95% A. In order to get it up to an A, I had to work with a great amount
I have been teaching for 6 years, and in that time I have been exposed to thousands of students, and it should be no surprise that every year there is a small group of students who modify my worldview, make me better, and teach me necessary lessons. Reilly Edgar is one of those students. He walked into my theology class second semester of his junior year with a quiet and respectful demeanor. I had spent the previous semester laying the foundation for a trusting relationship with his classmates. We were about to enter into the world of morality where the progress of the class would be predicated upon the student’s willingness to engage in discussions on pressing issues such as racism, sexual assault, gender roles, sexuality and abortion. Reilly
My time with APAC started back when I was a freshman back in 2014. Every week after science olympiad ended I would find my way to APAC and sit quietly through discussions in the back of the room. Even though I missed significant amounts of the discussion each week and almost never talked when I was there, something still made me come back each week. This is part of the beauty of our club; anyone can come and partake in discussions. Nonmembers and members alike can learn from each other and have valuable insights to share. In the end, my time with science olympiad ended, I started coming to APAC full-time, and here I am today--a hopeful candidate of the co president position.
National Honors Society is an amazing opportunity to be chosen for. By being accepted, it shows that the hard work that I have done in the classroom, and in the community have done well for not only the community but for myself as a person. Since I have started High-school, I have done many volunteer hours at my church. I have done many things such as help lead game-time for the little ones during a learning program called Awana. Awana is a program done by some churches to help raise children to love and serve God. I also help most Sundays in the sound room at church. I help to run the sound and the computer that displays the songs that we are doing that particular Sunday. I enjoy doing these things because seeing the children’s faces, enjoying
Starting high school can be a little scary, especially when you have no guidance from siblings, like me, being the first one from my family to have an education. But that did not stop me from succeeding, I?ve always been confident and determined. I?m an enthusiastic when it comes to trying new things. Who would have thought I was going to be a good athlete plus a book geek, when in my past years I was just a regular kid. I was pretty excited about joining a club that had a connection with high school, that way I didn?t have to start from zero, I always want to be a step ahead. Fortunately, in summer, a high school coach was recruiting freshmen for running either cross country or track, they both involve running, so I considered it like the same sport with different timing. And this is when it all started. Running
Something I would like to discuss with the admissions committee, that I haven’t explained in my AACOMAS application, is a particular semester where I did poorly. During my fall semester of my junior year I was taking Physics, Organic Chemistry, Calculus, and Organic Chemistry lab. In the midst of this vigorous course load, my great grandmother, grandma, and great uncle all passed away within 3 months of each other. These three people were all present throughout my life. I spent countless summers at my grandma’s house growing up. I was used to seeing my great grandmother and her son my great uncle at least 2-3 times a year as they were always at all of the family functions and my great uncle lived with my other grandma. The loss of my grandma
Scholarly personal narrative (SPN) was developed by Robert Nash who integrated the personal story into resect. SPN study tells a story that can clarify an issue beyond a specific case studied (p. 127, Brookfield). SPN is a research method that brings the researcher’s personal experience as a legitimate study form (p. 1, Heidelberger & Uecker).
Looking back to when I typed my first AP Language and Composition paper, I can honestly say that my writing skills have drastically improved. I started off not knowing any writing strategies and thought that typing three pages was a lot for just one paper. After completing the course, I can now write a full eight paged paper using one of the three writing strategies that we learned. Before this class, I was never a skilled writer and the thought of taking APLAC intimidated me because I did not think I was capable of completing the course. I never imagined myself taking this class because In my mind I simply was not smart enough to take it. However, due to all the positive comments I received about the class and how it improved my friends writing, I
Wow, those verses and your prayer… my girl has such a strong love for the Lord and His word… I truly thank God for this! Well, I’m feeling better today and had a good night’s sleep. My Dra. sure knows how to take good care of me and I just love her so much! I had the best time reading the bible this morning and felt like God was sitting right there beside me with His hand on my shoulder… the bible does say draw close to God and he will draw closer to you! His promises bring hope and life, and I’m so looking forward to walking hand in hand through life with you and those kids, enjoying and serving our Savior, Jesus Christ, together. Carla, my most beautiful and valuable treasure that I have in this world (after Christ of course), you make me
Since elementary school I have exhibited a talent for writing. What started out as mere ten page stories about cats hunting mice or Greek Gods turning people into blob fish expanded into publishing a four hundred page long summer camp murder mystery as an eBook with my friend Henry in eighth grade. Over the years I have become more passionate about my writing, and over the years my grammar and writing style have grown tremendously. Looking back at the book I helped write in eighth grade I can’t help but cringe at the mistakes we missed and dull language we used. If I had written the eBook at the level I am now it would have been much longer, extremely detailed, and correct grammar wise. I realize the story could be leagues better, so I’m currently
This artifact is a fun game I created to help my students study. It has 5 subjects and each subject has five questions, each of the questions are worth a certain amount of points. Whichever team answers the most questions right and has the highest score at the end will win something. I created this game using a PowerPoint template I got off of the internet and I came up with a handful of questions. I would use a project like this for several occaisons helping study for quizzes, tests and end of year exams. I met the above standard by evaluateing and reflecting on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student
I am glad you are becoming a more confident writer by utilizing all we have offered to us, I think we all are, slowly but surely. I also liked seeing you mention the APA quick guide PDF. This is saved to my desktop, one would think as much as I use it, I would have this APA thing down to a science; yet I do not. More on a personal note here also on our struggle with APA, let me tell you about my experience with the online staff at Bethel Library.
