Rationale For Parkview’s literacy program to grow, students need to reflective on their own learning. Student writing portfolios are a strategy that could help develop metacognitive reading and writing strategies, as well as help them build reading and writing connections. School wide writing has been an area that the school faculty has identified as an area of improvement for standardized tests and common quarterly assessments. Portfolios are more than just a folder of student work. Portfolios are samples of student work assembled to “a particular purpose” (Arter, 1990). Portfolios can be used for assessments and instructional purposes. Students can have choice when it comes to what pieces are showcased in the portfolio. Drafts can be included
As a student at Arizona State University (ASU), I am creating this for the class ENG 105. By using the Writing Program Administrators (WPA) outcomes and Habits of Mind in my portfolio, I will demonstrate my learning throughout the course. The WPA outcomes, a set of skills that ENG 105 is seeking to teach students, consist of rhetorical knowledge; critical thinking, reading, and composing; processes; and knowledge of conventions. ASU also seeks to improve students’ ability to use the Habits of Mind which include curiosity, openness,
Make sure that you spend 1 or 2 blocks for students to choose work to be included in the portfolio. Take a picture of the pieces of work and place them according to your subject.
Mr. Simon suggests to the students that they should include problem-solution mathematics work, samples of journal entries, mathematical goals, and shouldn’t include drill work and simple computational work into their portfolios. He then allows the students to discuss his suggestions
According to the CAPM model:R_i=α+βR_m+ε, α represent the abnormal return gained by the portfolio. If the market is efficiency, the α has to be zero.

The pieces I have chosen to be apart of my portfolio are the Catcher in the Rye essay, the American rebels powerpoint, the Streetcar Named Desire essay and the Catcher In The Rye fishbowl. I chose to include the Catcher in the Rye essay because it showcased my ability to explain in detail quotes from the book and expand on one idea. I also chose this essay because I got an 82% which I believe is a good grade for a hard essay topic such as the symbolism of the ducks. In addition, I chose the Catcher In The Rye fishbowl because it showed my ability to work cooperatively with my peers and actively listen to one another. Overall I earned a 92% on the fishbowl which is an A-. Lastly, I chose the American Rebels project because I did a very good
I have always enjoyed writing, and I believed writing was a subject I was naturally good at. I turned in papers that were still rough drafts, I did not evaluate my sources, nor did I ever take the time to fully understand the prompt. It was not until my first semester of college, in my writing composition course, I realized that I had a lot of work ahead of me to be as good a writer as I thought I was. In the writing course, the students were required to compose several essays using different methods to help progress on the course objectives. The work in this portfolio demonstrates that I have used the methods of synthesis and evaluation of sources to advance my critical thinking skills and develop personal responsibility. Though I have
Now, it is time to focus on gathering your material and create your own portfolio. Be creative in your writing samples.
“Sit down, let’s talk. A couple weeks ago, you came to me asking for advice regarding your stock portfolio. I didn’t help you too much then, but I will now. I don’t recommend investing your money at this age, but to do so after receiving the right education,” Mr. Forgeron advised to me as I shifted uncomfortably in the chair. This was not at all what I was expecting when he called me up to his desk after winning the monthly game of Hangman in our seventh grade Algebra class, but I listened intently.
Regardless of the diversity of portfolio models, however, they all make the same request that students assume responsibility for documenting and interpreting their own learning. This responsibility extends through col-lection, selection, and reflection. Students archive all their work - homework, class projects, journals, lab reports, spreadsheets, notes for presentations, drafts of assignments, peer review notes, and so on. At a designated time - sometimes at midterm, often at the end of a term - students select from this
According to Brown (2004: 257) portfolios can be unsuccessful if the objectives are not clearly stated, if guidelines are not explained to students, if the systematic review and feedback are not provided, and so on. Sometimes asking students to develop a portfolio is challenging, especially for new teachers and for those who have never created a portfolio. Successful e-portfolios depend on the following a number of steps and guidelines. As the result, the teachers should understand and apply the steps well in creating e-portfolios.
Portfolio analysis works as a great tool to analyze the specific products, investments or services (now written as aspects) a company currently has in its portfolio. Usually view by strategic business unit or product line, the tool can provide great value during the strategic planning phase. The book that inspired my interest further was Eyes on the Child by Jervis. In this book, it addresses using portfolios in all content areas and touches on its uses in mathematics. The part that struck me the most out of this book and really helped me to choose my focus of this paper was the following:“The portfolios do not take away from the basic beauty of the curriculum, which requires new relationships between teachers, students, their work, and each other. These collections, which have letter grades attached, provide a physical place to store completed work, and thus qualify as portfolios.”
A professional writing portfolio is a very useful tool for a writer. It helps the writer prepare well for their entry into the professional world. A portfolio also allows the writer to be more organized with their work. A website, “Rhetoric and Writing”, talks about the importance of having a Professional Writing Portfolio. It discusses how many professionals/superiors will use a portfolio to assess a writer's aptitudes and skills. The site also discusses how portfolios are important for job searchers because they are more personal, and much more insightful, and therefore a better way for employers to evaluate interviewees than a regular resume. (Rhetoric) It provides an exhibition of skill and organized set of the writer's work. Not only
