A professional writing portfolio is a very useful tool for a writer. It helps the writer prepare well for their entry into the professional world. A portfolio also allows the writer to be more organized with their work. A website, “Rhetoric and Writing”, talks about the importance of having a Professional Writing Portfolio. It discusses how many professionals/superiors will use a portfolio to assess a writer's aptitudes and skills. The site also discusses how portfolios are important for job searchers because they are more personal, and much more insightful, and therefore a better way for employers to evaluate interviewees than a regular resume. (Rhetoric) It provides an exhibition of skill and organized set of the writer's work. Not only …show more content…
In his article on publishing, Bruce Robertson also advised on the inclusion of many different kinds of writing in the portfolio. Heeding this counsel, I assembled a diverse cross-section of my writings for the portfolio; among these are a children's story, several different poems concerning different themes (innocence, love, death, etc), several different types of poetry (metaphor, sonnet, rhyme, non-rhyme, structured lines/stanzas, etc) and some miscellaneous writings (such as a continuation to Dr. Seuss's “The Lorax”). Robertson focuses on the trends that tend to cycle through the publishing business and suggests diversity for this purpose. None of my sources had any particular ideas about how a portfolio should be organized, which led me to the opinion that the organization was left to the preference of the individual who is assembling the portfolio. Also, as pieces are added to the portfolio, the organization is subject to change. Professor Michael Fallon, head of the English department at UMBC, has suggested beginning with the strongest work. Lee Masterson was able to offer some insight on using a professional portfolio. (Fiction) Masterson advised that a person should “start small” and focus on showing their portfolios to small markets at first so that they can get the feedback they really need to make a fantastic portfolio
The first assignment as a part of CIU111, is to build an online presence, or more specifically a portfolio website. Such a website is designed to showcase one's work, skills, and inclinations, and is a factor that is regularly taken into consideration by hiring managers (Smith, 2013). And being as I am, a film student, on the path towards entering a market as competitive as the creative industry, a portfolio becomes all the more important when marketing yourself to prospective employers.
Do you think professional portfolios are more important for entry level job seekers or experienced professionals? Justify your view.week 7
Prior to the start of WRT-382, I had put little thought into my resume and cover letter. I didn’t realize that hiring employers spend less than a minute on each applicant’s resumes. I understand now that there has to be a clear and consistent theme to market and brand yourself. I also know now that having a skimable resume can make you seem more appealing than others even if they are more qualified. After learning about the components of a professional portfolio, I have learned how to condense my qualifications while modifying them to the specific employer.
Part A: In your questioning you may wish to include topics on erosion, his involvement in shaping the land, the farms water runoff or irrigation methods used.
On several occasions the artist decides to use bold titles to introduce the topic of their work, sometimes accompanied by a small paragraph near the bottom of the page in order to tell the story or elements behind the piece (these are set out neatly in ‘blocks’). The images of her work (and the work itself if it is in 2D) themselves fill the page (one or two are laid out per side), with a double-spread page being on usually one or two similar topics that (the artist’s work) link to themselves. The artist uses formal (plain) colours for the text, frame, and, background; this makes the portfolio look professional and flow (as there are at least those similarities). To me, that once again makes the portfolio look extremely professional, although some may argue that it limits creativity. However, it shows consistency in the portfolio, as if to say that although the type of work changes (e.g. fine art and textiles), the artist’s style and personality
For this portfolio, I chose two main courses that I believed that I had the most difficult time in. In choosing my courses I made sure that they would be completely different but, somewhat complement each other, so, in the end, I chose English and Math. The main strategies that I believed would be most effective in my math course was the 20-minute test prep strategy. The 20-minute test prep strategy is a strategic way of preparing for tests and reviewing information in a less stressful way. I chose this strategy because even though I am a student my schedule is constantly filled and I never have time to do what I need to do without overworking myself. But, when I do have free time I absolutely cherish it, in that time I become
For this assignment, I will be explaining how my portfolio, meets my target audience and purpose.

By working on this portfolio I have learned new resources that are useful to me now and in the future. For example, many reliable websites for scholarships, job offerings, and
For healthcare professionals it is important to have a portfolio and it is very important to keep it updated. Portfolios can be used for annual appraisals with an employer or can be used in preparation for a new job (Jasper, Elliot, & Koubel, 2011). Portfolios can be used as evidence of continuing professional development as it can hold important documents like certificates of completions for activities an individual has attended, show evidence of self directed learning, show evidence of the professionals continuing professional development documentation history, learning outcomes, personal development plans and superiors or prospective employers are able to see if the individual is up to date with all requirements (Jasper, Elliot, & Koubel,
This portfolio has show my progress in many different ways. The biggest way is my rhetorical knowledge has been increased because of the sources we have had to read especially in this last unit when we had to use the UW database. The scholarly articles and journals pushed my reading and analyzing to the limit, but it really helped me for the future. Because of my ability to analyze the sources well, it has helped me increase my writing, because I have been able to really find good credible quotes to use within my work.

“The Benefits of diversification are clear. Portfolio theory has played a crucial role in explaining the relationship between risk and return where more than one investment is held. It also enables us to identify optimal and efficient portfolios.”
Welcome to my 8th grade portfolio and I am going to talk about how I have grown from 7th grade to 8th grade in math. In math we work on a website called Digits filled with learning based tools and activities that help us master numerous math subjects as homework. We take multiple quizzes and tests always on the current subject we are learning about. Every morning we do warm ups. Warm ups are just practice problems to prepare us for lessons and bigger practices in the upcoming class. My performance in math has improved from weak explanations and work, to detailed, and understandable explanations of math using thorough work. In 7th grade I was in the CC7 class and now I am in CC8. That doesn’t mean I haven’t improved. I am at grade level understanding
Each of these 3 articles highlight important aspects that we as media strategist should understand. The first article refers to good practices for portfolio websites such as sharing visual content along with a backstory. This point was extremely helpful because it did make sense to provide high-quality visuals along with a description. Although, I was never completely sure if showing your process on a portfolio piece would’ve been a good idea. The author also provided the following saying “Simplicity in the interface and visual design of your website will push your work to the surface, where it should be.” The main learning curve from this point was how complex
