Character Analysis Of Dallas Winston In 'The Outsiders'

In the book The Outsiders, Dallas Winston is a hero, but he is not a typical hero. Robbing stores, getting in fights, and getting drunk is what Dally is usually doing when he is not with the boys. Dally has a bad reputation around the neighbourhood and he is always getting himself into trouble. As if doing all that is not bad enough, being a greaser makes it a whole lot worse. Greasers are the lowest class in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They wear old clothes, wrecked cars, and live in the poor part of town. Although all of that may make one think that he is not a hero, he is a hero. Dallas is not a hero to just anyone, but he is to the people he really cares about and loves. When Dallas Winston really cares about someone he will fight for them until the end. If he did not put it out Ponyboy could have died. Also, when Johnny was stuck in the church, it was about to cave in on him, but Dally jumped in and pulled him out before he got stuck on it. If Dally had not pulled him out, then the church would have caved in on him and killed him instantly, or he would have had way worse injuries. The part that is really heroic, is that Dally went into the fire despite the screaming, danger, and possibility of him getting seriously hurt. These actions prove even more that Dallas Winston is a hero, but there still is one more major ation that truly proves that he is a hero. The final action that shows how Dally is a hero, is he comes to the big rumble. To anyone coming to a rumble,(which is a big fight) would not be that big of a deal. Dally, coming to the rumble is such a big deal, because he was quite hurt. Although he was hurt Dally still showed up to help the boys win the rumble. This is so heroic, because he already had some pretty bad injuries. Going to the rumble could have made his injuries worse, and given him even more
