In the book The Outsiders, Dallas Winston is a hero, but he is not a typical hero. Robbing stores, getting in fights, and getting drunk is what Dally is usually doing when he is not with the boys. Dally has a bad reputation around the neighbourhood and he is always getting himself into trouble. As if doing all that is not bad enough, being a greaser makes it a whole lot worse. Greasers are the lowest class in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They wear old clothes, wrecked cars, and live in the poor part of town. Although all of that may make one think that he is not a hero, he is a hero. Dallas is not a hero to just anyone, but he is to the people he really cares about and loves. When Dallas Winston really cares about someone he will fight for them until the end. Dallas has lots of courage …show more content…
If he did not put it out Ponyboy could have died. Also, when Johnny was stuck in the church, it was about to cave in on him, but Dally jumped in and pulled him out before he got stuck on it. If Dally had not pulled him out, then the church would have caved in on him and killed him instantly, or he would have had way worse injuries. The part that is really heroic, is that Dally went into the fire despite the screaming, danger, and possibility of him getting seriously hurt. These actions prove even more that Dallas Winston is a hero, but there still is one more major ation that truly proves that he is a hero. The final action that shows how Dally is a hero, is he comes to the big rumble. To anyone coming to a rumble,(which is a big fight) would not be that big of a deal. Dally, coming to the rumble is such a big deal, because he was quite hurt. Although he was hurt Dally still showed up to help the boys win the rumble. This is so heroic, because he already had some pretty bad injuries. Going to the rumble could have made his injuries worse, and given him even more
Dally was a hero for his actions and his help. After Johnny killed someone Ponyboy and Johnny went to go see Dally and asked “If he could help them hide so the police wouldn't find us.” Dally told them to “go to the abandoned church up on Jay Mountain.” Before they left he gave Pony a new shirt that was big, a gun to Johnny if he ever needed it, and some cash to buy supplies since they would half to stay there for a while. (Skipping to the part when the church was on fire) Dally also helped Johnny get out of the burning church when the church fell down and heard Johnny's screams. Dally risked his own life for Johnny’s. That's why he’s a
Dallas Winston was a great man. He was there when we needed him. At the age of 14 he moved to Oklahoma, he made some incredible friends, Johnny, Darry, Two-bit, Sodapop, and Steve and I. That’s where he met, and formed our gang, the greasers. Though, Dally was tough, and mean looking, he showed sympathy, and compassion for his fellow gang members, especially Johnny. Dally did everything for us, when our gang thought he was unable to fight at the rumble, he still did because he wanted to help us, he didn’t want to see us lose against the Socs. And have our territory taken.
Continuing, Dallas Winston is another heroic character in this book. Dallas may seem like he is mean, but he really cares for others. Dallas shows this when he helped Johnny and Ponyboy after Johnny killed a Soc. Johnny and Ponyboy were in deep trouble and Dallas helped them stay out of it. Dallas gave them directions for a place to hide out, he gave them money, a gun, and Ponyboy a change of clothes to stay warm.
Dallas doesn't want Johnny to end up like him, cold, emotionless, and heartless. Therefore, Dallas Winston proves to be an exceptional character and human being, showing us that even cold hearts have kindness inside them. The character of Dallas Winston in the novel, the Outsiders, is a true hero and an extraordinary character. Lastly, Cherry Valance is another hero in the book because she sacrifices her social life, reputation, and friends to stand up for what is right. Cherry understands the risks of doing what is right and how it can alter her personal life while saving others.
I thank Dally is a hero because he's the one who stade when Two Bit broke the window out the building and took the blame for Two Bit. When johnny and Ponyboy got jumped Johnny did something he thot he would never do you kill a soc. Then they ran to Dally for help and he told them where to go to hide. When the church cot on fair Johnny and Ponyboy went in a saved the kids but when Johnny got hit by a piece of wood Dally went and saved him. When Johnny died the hero broke he went and robbed the grocery store ran from the police. He went under the street light and pulled out the fake gun and the police shot him and that was the end of Dally being a
For this reason, Johnny really stands out as a heroic character and shows the true meaning of his last words to Ponyboy, “Stay Gold”. There is no doubt that the character of Johnny Cade and the book, The Outsiders, is a true hero. Similarly, Dallas Winston is another hero in the book because he helped Johnny and Ponyboy escape from their small town and get to the church in Windrixville. Dallas helped Johnny and Ponyboy get to Windrixville after Johnny killed Bob, the Soc, to save Ponyboy from being drowned in the fountain. To help Johnny and Ponyboy escape to Windrixville, Dallas told the boys, “‘Here’ he handed us a gun and a roll of bills ‘the gun’s
The Outsiders is a book and movie about the greasers and socs during the 60s. Most people who read or watched it have a favorite character. They pick this character because they like the way they act, the way they look, or even if they are a hero. Each greaser has done multiple things to make them look like a hero, but Dallas Winston is the biggest hero out of them all. Heros are described as people who are brave, helpful, and courageous. This describes Dally because he is always their for his friends to fall back on, he has saved many people from getting hurt, and he helps others even if he doesn’t have too.
In the novel The Outsiders by S.E. HINTON the main character Ponyboy’s identity changes multiple times over the text. In the beginning of the story Ponyboy was introduced as a greaser, a greaser is someone who is usually poorer than the middle class and like to screw around and start gang fights and they are considered hoods as stated on pages 2-3, “We’re poorer than the Socs and the middle class. I reckon we’re wilder, too. Not like the Socs, who jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks, and get editorials in the paper for being a public disgrace almost like hoods.” this shows that even though the Socs are much more wild the greasers are still considered the bad crazy hood people. Ponyboy didn’t like being a greaser
Dally is a hero in his own way.He is a hero by trying to get Ponyboy and Johnny out of the burning church. He yelled at the boys to leave the kids in and get out of there before anything bad could happen.
Ponyboy is a hero to me. In one of the chapters, there is a burning church and kids are stuck inside.“Then pushed open the window and tossed out the nearest kid.”(79)Pony is a hero for obviously saving those kids in the church without any hesitation. He didn’t even think about himself or how he could get hurt, he just ran without even thinking. He helped those kids which were very brave of him. He also cared about his friends after the fire. I let his first remark slide by. "Are Johnny and Dally all right?"(81)
The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, is a novel which tells the story of two rival gangs from Oklahoma in 1965. The rivalry is between Greasers who are much poorer than their counterparts from the west-side, the Socials. Ponyboy Curtis is the narrator of this story, and it is through his eyes that the events unfold. In this classic, there three characters who stood out from the rest: Darry Curtis, Dally Whinston and of course, Johnny Cade. But, are they heroes? To answer this question, one must first know what a hero is. In my opinion, a hero is a person who, in the face of danger, adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and self-sacrifice for the greater good.
A true hero is someone who does heroic acts, not someone who simply “looks” heroic. This is certainly the case for Johnny, especially at the drive-in. Dally is a troublemaker, and he is most proud of his criminal record. At first, the greasers decide to visit the theatre to watch a movie, where they meet two good-looking Socs named Cherry and Marcia who are sitting alone after a fight with their drunk boyfriends. The greasers don't belong with the girls, because they are the rich rivals of the greasers-Socs. But Dallas doesn't care, and regardless of the "rule", he puts his feet on their chair, and says dirty things to them. "Take your feet off my chair and shut your trap", said Cherry, and Dally replied by saying "Who's gonna make me?"(21)Then,
Ponyboy might be considered a hero because,he had no hesitation getting out of the car and going into a burning church to save a few kids.He puts others before himself and he cares about other people. He went into a burning church knowing that he could get hurt or even die but he still went anyway ¨Dally was standing there, and when he saw me he screamed,¨For pete's sake, get outa there! That roofs gonna cave in any minute.Forget those blasted kids!¨I didn't pay any attention, although pieces of the old roof were falling to close for comfort.¨ You can see from reading this quote from the book that Ponyboy is considered a hero because he didn't care about what Dally was telling him,he only cared about getting those kids out of the burning church. This is just a few examples of why Ponyboy could be considered a hero.
Dally is Johnny’s hero because he is more than a friend for Johnny. Dally is the meanest and toughest and is a juvenile delinquent and doesn’t care for no one, but when it comes to Johnny and his friends the Greasers, he’s there. He is a hero because of some parts that showed the lighter side of his personality A quote that was from Dally meant as him being a hero because of his careness for Johnny and it says "I was crazy, you know that, kid? Crazy for wantin' Johnny to stay out of trouble, for not wanting' him to get hard. If he'd been like me he'd never have been in this mess.
To start off, Ponyboy is a hero because of the courage he displays through the book. “I jerked loose and ran on. All I could think was: We started it. We started it. We started it!
