Ponyboy Ponyboy might be considered a hero because,he had no hesitation getting out of the car and going into a burning church to save a few kids.He puts others before himself and he cares about other people. He went into a burning church knowing that he could get hurt or even die but he still went anyway ¨Dally was standing there, and when he saw me he screamed,¨For pete's sake, get outa there! That roofs gonna cave in any minute.Forget those blasted kids!¨I didn't pay any attention, although pieces of the old roof were falling to close for comfort.¨ You can see from reading this quote from the book that Ponyboy is considered a hero because he didn't care about what Dally was telling him,he only cared about getting those kids out of the burning church. This is just a few examples of why Ponyboy could be considered a hero.
Johnny
A hero is a person that saves someone like Johnny,Ponyboy, and Dally did in the outsiders.
I would consider Ponyboy a hero because when they went back to the church that they stayed in. Ponyboy saw that the church was on fire. Without thinking Pony went to see what happened at the church. Then Ponyboy realized there was some kids still inside. Without a doubt Pony went into the church while it was up in flames. He found the kids in a room at the back of the church. He then went to go help and save the children. That's why I consider Pony being a hero.

Through the dialogue in the story, it is very clear Ponyboy is brave and heroic. A prime example of this is when the church was on fire. “Oh glory!” he whispered. The church was on fire!...About that time a lady came running up. “Jerry, some of the kids are missing”...I’ll get them, don’t worry!” I started at a dead run for the church, and the man
He is also a hero because he’s good at school, he is a good student, he’s athletic, and he avoids making tension with his rivals. Ponyboy is a hero to the kids in the wrong side of the cities for showing them that it’s possible to escape, and get a better future, he’s a hero to the kids who would’ve died, a hero to his brothers, and many
The word greaser triggers thoughts of lower-class boys and girls, who steal from stores and cause trouble. When you think of a greaser you think of a villain. If I were to think of a greaser, I would never imagine a hero. Yet, in S.E Hinton’s realistic fiction, The Outsiders, a gang of greasers remind me of heroes. They may not have superpowers, but they do many heroic things throughout the book that saves the lives of other people.
In the book, Dally was hallmarked as a reckless thug, but he showed heroism by offering a plot and some supplies to Ponyboy and Johnny to protect them. He might not perfectly fit in my earlier definition of a hero, nevertheless he was is in the eyes of Johnny and Ponyboy in that glimpse. In addition, he dragged Johnny out of the fire and got burned in the process. Thus, he is a true hero.

In The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton, both Johnny and Dally risked their lives for the safety of others, in my eyes, that makes them heroes. However, i have no doubt they would have wanted to represent the greaser population as a whole in there actions. So therefore, i believe they were heroes who happened to be greasers, or perhaps the other way around...
