My name is Maddy Neyra, this is my partner Deanna Brown, and we strongly disagree that medical testing on animals is necessary for progress. Medical testing on animals is a way for scientists to find out if a medicine works or not on a human figure. For this reason and those that follow, my partisan and I firmly oppose today's resolution that resolved: “Medical testing on animals is necessary for progress.” My partner Deanna and I firmly believe that medical testing on animals is an infernal way of testing medicine, and it should be prohibited for the following reasons: animals suffer in the same way that most humans do, there are different methods to test medicine other than on animals, and animals may not react the same way to a medicine that humans do. All of these reasons are representations of animal abuse. …show more content…
If humans do not go through this pain, then why should animals have to suffer this ominous treatment? To add on, if the medicine is not safe to use on animals than it is most likely not going to be safe on humans either. “Animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing process, the infliction of pain to study its effects and remedies, and "killing by carbon dioxide asphyxiation, neck-breaking, decapitation, or other means." (“Animal Testing”). Medical testing on animals makes them suffer through the same pain that one may feel, so making them go through this horrible process is a form of incredulous animal
If you look at the CAF you already initiated (CAF#: QAFAP-2016-8P-W-UIC-CAF1) [attached], under “Problem/Finding Description in Section 1”, you pre-filled an “Opportunity for Improvement” that was reported in the Internal Audit Summary.
This website covers the many conditions that are forced upon animals as they’re awaiting their turn to be cruelly tested on. Not only do the animals have to wait in misery but the state in which they are kept is unlivable. It lists the many ways animals are tested upon and unfairly dragged into this life of pain. This source, siding with the animal rights, also gives many effective alternatives. Many of the organizations listed on the website promote the use of animals in testing and many fund schools for dissections in science.
Giving animals pain isn’t right. Scientists use needles and don’t relieve the pain they caused the animal. Animals that are given little to none to relieve the pain many animals may still might experience the pain. U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulate the developments of new medications to be used on animals that might be later used to help humans.
In discussion of animal rights, one controversial issue has been whether or not animals should be use for medical testing. On the one hand, some scientists argue that animal testing has contributed for many cures and treatments. On the other hand, animal rights activist contends that alternative methods now exist that can replace the need for animals. Others even maintain that animal testing is an essential part in medical research. My own view is that animals should not be used in medical testing because is no longer necessary now there are methods that are safer and have better results than animals do.
Thesis Statement: Animal testing is a debatable issue in modern society. Some people argue that animal testing should be kept due to medical benefits and research study conveniences. However, I think animal experimentation should be banned by refuting supporters’ arguments.
are not able to give consent for this as would be required of a human. Other
For many years humans have always used animals for anything. Billions of animals are being used in harmful ways every year, such as in foods, experiments and being held captive. Over the years, there have been many cases of animal abuse in the world. Some people do not pay any interest to what is going on in these animal attractions. In 2004, Sunstein suggested that animals must have their rights; therefore many people with factory farms were afraid that the administrations were going to embrace an animal protection. In the past years “many have come to view the struggle foranimal liberation as being on a par with other liberation struggles,” (Marcia Clemmitt). Scientists have noticed that animals do need freedom. For example farm animals are the ones who produce for our food. Cows, chickens, pigs, are the ones who humans kill for our appetite. Therefore farm animals are at risk, and people who eat them such as myself, do not realize the type of harm farmers put the animals through.
Animal testing goes back to the Greeks in 4th and 3rd centuries, with Aristotle and Erasistratus among the first to perform experiments on living animals. Using birds, mice, eels, snails, and flies early physicist conducted experiments trying to discover cures for illness. In the 18th century a physicist by the name of Antoine Lavoisier, used a guinea pig in a calorimeter to demonstrate that respiration was a form of combustion. Later on Luigi Galvani demonstrated that electricity applied to a dead, dissected, frog’s leg muscle caused it to twitch. It wasn’t until the 1880’s and 1890’s that physicists made medical advances, Emil von Behring isolated the diphtheria toxin and demonstrated its effect in guinea pigs. He went to demonstrate immunity
Animal Testing: Torturing animals by testing medicine on them… If you were sick would you really rely on a medication that worked on animals? Do you think it would work on you? Animal Testing is a way for doctors to ensure medication, but animals and humans are different. Some reasons is, tests that have passed animals can affect human population. Another reason is not many tests work. According to Some Facts animal testing 92% of tests don’t work. Also if you were sick and ready for treatment then you would not want medication that passed animals and can skew your outcome. Some people say that animal testing is good because it helps find cures, but side effects can be different and hurt you further.
Animals are not the same as humans as you should know. So when testing products you need something that is going to replicate a human almost exactly. A new product is coming out called organs-on-chips. These chips are lined with human cells and basically mimic the function of that organ. The micro-engineered devices predict human situations more accurate. The creators of the chip are located at Harvard’s Wyss Institution and said the chips have “human airway cells from the air sac on a membrane that’s porous. On the other side of the membrane are human capillary blood vessel cells. There’s air on one side and there’s flowing medium with human blood cells in it, like blood on the other si.. on the capillary side. And then
Should people hurt animals? Should people kill animals for human drugs? These are questions citizens need to ask themselves everyday. Many animals are being hurt or killed every year because scientists are testing on them. Animals do not deserve this abuse just for human gain. Animal testing is wrong and should be stopped, because animals are being hurt and mistreated and the scientists are not using new methods, and developing bad drugs. Approximately 23 million animals are being tested each year, according to the Office of Technology Assessment. This is not ok, the madness needs to stop.
Medical testing on animals kills more than one hundred million animals every year! Animals are sometimes used in the testing of drugs, vaccines and other biological tests, and medical things, mainly to determine the safety of the product. Even though there are many other ways to test this still goes on. Many people think its the best way to test but it is not. Many many animals are tested on and few end up alive in the end. It seems like they would have stopped it by now but they have not.
Have you ever dropped a pebble in a pond and watched the water ripple outward from the center for what seems like an eternity? It is fascinating how one seemingly insignificant pebble can have an enormous effect on such a large expanse of water. Through my life experiences, I came to the realization that everything I do has an effect on others in some way either positively or negatively. Every person that I come into contact with, on any given day, is affected by me. Even a simple gesture such as a smile, holding the door open for someone, or a kind word could change that person’s day for the better. Doing my best can positively affect others, and can in turn, inspire them to do their best. Consequently, they may pass on their best effort to
Today, in 80% of countries, the testing of cosmetics on animals is still legal, and in some some countries, it is even required. Animal testing is an unacceptable practice that should not be legal in any sense. *Therefore, the cosmetic industries use of animal testing should be illegal because it is a form of animal cruelty and abuse and it is not necessary to make quality and safe cosmetics.*
Great Britain is currently one of the main economic potencies in the world and this is also due to the fact that they were one of the first countries in the world to take advantage of a modern economic growth method, which led to them having a competitive advantage in comparison to the other countries. Approximately 200 years ago countries were facing a state of economic stagnation denominated of Malthusian Trap, which basically meant that as the country increased the output it would also increase the population thus maintaining the product per capita. We chose to do this essay on Great Britain, as it is one of the best and most documented examples on a country, which was able to resourcefully get out of this trap and thrive by guiding its
